About Ulrike Lau
In 2004 my mother asked me if I would like to join her at a glass bead making course. That was the beginning of my artistic life working with glass.
After two 3-day courses I had found what I was looking for! I forgot about everything else as I made beads, and my mind filled with ideas for others, it was amazing. I built my own workplace and gave a lot of glass rods new life as fantastically patterned and shaped glass beads.
Seven years later, in 2011, I opened my first studio in Esslingen, Germany. There I had the space to welcome interested people who wanted to see that fantastic way to make beads from simple glass rods.
To get more inspiration and to learn new techniques, I attended courses in Germany, Italy and New Zealand. I also read a lot of educational books and gave different techniques a go. I get most of my inspiration by communing with nature, whether in Germany, or spectacular New Zealand.
